Testimonials

MR DE Pty Ltd has played a key role in consolidating Ellipse functionality at Tarong Energy.  John and Craig’s collaborative approach when working with our internal support team, our customer base, and Mincom, has allowed the Corporation to focus on maximizing the benefits of an integrated enterprise application environment.

Reference Statement:

Tarong Energy went live with Ellipse on 1 July 2001. At this point the Corporation  was faced with the reality of simultaneously changing its legacy core applications to an integrated suite covering the following functions:

  • Permit-to-Work
  • Maintenance
  • Human Resources
  • Supply
  • Finance
  • Payroll
  • Accounts Payable

Such a change required both organizational commitment and focused support during the transition-to-stability phase.

MR DE Pty Ltd was engaged in December 2001 to help stabilize Ellipse through initiatives such as:

  • Reducing the backlog of general Ellipse queries
  • Reducing the backlog of Ellipse work orders
  • Developing a cross-functional Ellipse support framework

During MR DE’s six-month engagement the backlog of general queries and Ellipse work orders has been reduced by over 60%. This impressive effort has given Tarong Energy the opportunity to lock-in support practices and devote more time to continuous improvement initiatives and the expansion of Ellipse into new business initiatives such as Tarong North and Starfish Hill.

MR DE has been engaged for a further six months to facilitate the implementation of Ellipse at Tarong North and lock-in the work practices surrounding Ellipse support.

An introduction to Tarong Energy

Tarong Energy is a Queensland Government Owned Corporation. It owns assets at both ends of the interconnected electricity and gas markets including:

  • The 1400MW (4 x 350MW) coal-fired Tarong Power Station;

  • The 500MW (2 x 250MW) pumped-storage hydro-electric Wivenhoe Power Station;

  • A 15MW gas turbine on the Tarong site; and

  • Terra Gas Trader (TGT), a South Australian-based wholesale gas trading business that trades more than 50% of the natural gas in South Australia.

Tarong Energy also owns the Glen Wilga coal resource near Chinchilla. The single 450MW unit coal-fired Tarong North Power Station is under construction and is scheduled to complete commissioning in early 2003.

On 18 April 2002, the Corporation announced its plans to construct South Australia's first wind farm. This 34.5 MW plant will be developed at a cost of $65 million.
